County acts to assure fire funds
Custer County commissioners this week passed a resolution formalizing one of the ways the county helps fund rural fire departments and also changing the source of funds.
In the past, each of the three commissioners has donated $25,000 a year from his road funds to one shared by the district’s six fire departments. Another $25,000 has been put in from county sales taxes, so that the fire departments got $100,000 among them each year.
Now, that $100,000 will come from the use tax, which is essentially sales taxes paid on goods purchased elsewhere and used in the county.
