Big Five from Durant to lead Head Start
The federal office of Head Start has announced that Big Five Community Services, Inc. with headquarters in Durant has been awarded a five year grant to serve children and families in 16 counties in Northwest Oklahoma, including Custer County.
Kent Watson, executive director of Big Five Community Services, Inc., said “We are honored to be able to serve the children and families of Northwest Oklahoma. Big Five has a longstanding tradition of excellence in early childhood services. Our success has been based on our model of intensive collaboration with school districts and child care centers in the communities we serve, and we intend to implement that same model of collaboration with school districts and child care centers in Northwest Oklahoma.”
Head Start and Early Head Start services will be provided in the counties of Custer, Dewey, Alfalfa, Beaver, Blaine, Canadian, Cimarron, Ellis, Garfield, Grant, Harper, Kingfisher, Major, Texas, Woods, and Woodward counties in Oklahoma, according to Jeff Alexander, director of Early Childhood Services for Big Five.
