Beckham deputy kills Sayre man wielding ax
District Attorney Dennis Smith has another fatal shooting by a law enforcement officer to deal with.
A Beckham County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man shortly before noon Thursday after the man hit him several times with an ax, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported.
The victim was identified as Larry Plaster, 44, of Sayre. The deputy’s name has not been released.
It’s the second deadly shooting by a law enforcement officer in Smith’s five-county District 2 in just over three months. Mah-hi-vist Goodblanket, 18, of Clinton, was shot by two Custer County deputies on Dec. 21, 2013, after he allegedly attacked them with a knife, or knives. Smith confirmed just this week that he had received OSBI’s report of that investigation and was reviewing it before deciding if charges are warranted.
