Urana Jefferson with the Clinton Public Schools cleans up around some of the Roush Army Reserve Center kitchen gear that will eventually be donated for use by the City of Clinton at the National Guard Armory.

Armory to have full kitchen, basketball court

Everything from a high school-sized full basketball court to a small cafeteria with fairly extensive professional kitchen facilities to classrooms to a computer lab to a small performing stage to a large storm shelter is taking shape at the historic National Guard Armory.

While ostensibly for the City of Clinton’s After School and Active Afternoons programs for children, the court and other facilities could end up being available for adult basketball league type play, for instance (present adult basketball facilities at Acme Brick Park are not even half-court in size).

It’s possible that the old armory could be turned into some type of community center for all ages, just judging by the plans presented by Parks and Recreation Director Kris Wermy, although this hasn’t officially been discussed or in any way approved by city officials.
