23 local third graders failed reading test

Clinton Public Schools was notified Friday by the state Department of Education (SDE) that — based on preliminary test results generated by the state’s testing vendor — 23 of its 177 third graders performed unsatisfactorily on the state’s third grade language arts exam this spring.

Information has been received from Oklahoma Watch that indicates nearly 7,970 students statewide failed the exam and are at risk of being retained.

Preliminary data from the State Department of Education shows 15.7 percent of third graders scored unsatisfactory, the lowest of four levels, on the reading portion of the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test.
