Unique sight gags set off ‘A Little Off the Top’ at Playhouse
Lighthearted humor at the considerable expense of hapless bald guys is the order of the day for “A Little Off the Top” opening at 7:30 p.m. today at the Southwest Playhouse, N. Sixth and Nowahy, Clinton, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday and again at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19.
This reporter was invited to review a dress rehearsal Wednesday. “Off the Top” doesn’t pretend to be anything more than the lightest of fluff, but it does a good job of eliciting a steady stream of laughs thanks to an ensemble cast that’s a mix of veterans and relative newcomers.
Bob Gauger, in the role of Steve, and Terry Hook, in the role of Jerry, are a study in the contrast of philosophies revolving around whether or not guys should camouflage their baldness to win ladies’ affections.
