Clinton streets were closed Wednesday around an area where muriatic acid leaked from a rail car.

Emergency personnel were keeping a section of the former Clinton cotton oil mill and the edge of a housing addition just to the south isolated Wednesday after a leak was discovered around 3:30 a.m. in a rail car carrying muriatic acid, also known as hydrochloric acid.

Clinton High School’s Class of 1959 will gather together again Sept. 5 for what the members are calling “a festival of fun” in celebration of the 55th anniversary of their graduation.

Activities are planned for two days, with probably at least breakfast on a third. Everything will take place in Clinton.
