New Custer County sheriff’s deputy Marcus Williams, working his first night shift since his employment four days earlier, helped recover a nearly 12-pound stash of crystal methamphetamine Saturday out of a traffic stop on Interstate 40.

Tucker McGee’s trial for first-degree murder was set Monday for Dec. 9 at 9:30 a.m.

Retailers are among the first to begin preparing for the start of another school year. Big Kmart Assistant Manager Diane Williams was photographed setting out school supplies this week. Supply lists are available for Clinton and will be added for the other schools as they become available.

The weeks are winding down toward the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. Information about the start of the new year at Clinton and Arapaho-Butler has been released for parents’ planning purposes. School will start Thursday, Aug. 14, at Arapaho-Butler while Clinton students will return to classes Monday, Aug. 18.
