The end of July will mark the beginning of a new season at Southwest Playhouse, and first up will be the Disney musical “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” The cast of this production will be youth only, aged 7 to 18 years old.

One hundred twenty-five kids, ranging in age from kindergarten through sixth grade, turned out Friday for the “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.” The event was endorsed by the American Red Cross and was held at Clinton’s Water-Zoo indoor water park.

Clinton police have investigated two burglaries this week, one at Weldon Truck Parts on South U.S. Highway 183 and the other at a storage unit in the 400 block of North Sixth Street.

Jesse V. Hayes

Memorial services for Jesse V. Hayes, 82, of Zellwood, Fla., formerly from Clinton, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kiesau-Lee Memorial Chapel.
Hayes died Aug. 12, 2015.

Joey Lee

Funeral services for Joey Lee, 37, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, in Oklahoma City.

Johnny Galvan

A mass of Christian burial for Johnny “Poncho” Galvan Sr., 68, of Butler, will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton.



After, by his own estimation, 41 years, one month and one week in the pulpit of the First Church of God, Roy Dobbs told his Church Council and congregation Sunday that he is retiring.
