Gold mower lands in river; driver bruised
- Gerald Green @ 1:20 pm CST
A part-time employee of the Riverside Golf Course was bruised up and a small mower heavily damaged when the worker backed it into the Washita River late Friday afternoon, manager Kelly Somner said today. The employee was Jerrod Drinnon, a student at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. He was treated in the emergency room at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital and released. Somner said Drinnon was mowing the No. 11 tee box when the machine backed into the river. Riprap had been placed in the river at that location a few years ago to prevent erosion and the mower “hit the rocks pretty hard,” said the manager. The machine was self-propelled, meaning a separate tractor was not needed to pull it. Somner called it a “triplex” and said it was similar to a three-wheeler. He didn’t know whether it could be repaired or not. He said the mower was eight or nine years old and was probably valued at $4,000 to $5,000 before the accident. Somner figured it might cost at least that much to have it fixed. Drinnon was a fairly new employee but had 12 to 13 hours experience operating the mower under supervision, said Somner. Besides tee boxes, the mower was also used on greens. <>
